Resumen

A lo largo de los últimos veinte años, las Naciones Unidas han abordado los llamados «crímenes de honor» como una forma específica de violencia contra la mujer, basada en prácticas perjudiciales que son consecuencia de tradiciones culturales y religiosas arraigadas, que discriminan a las mujeres y las niñas y violan sus derechos humanos y fundamentales, de ahí que las Naciones Unidas hayan definido un conjunto de estándares internacionales de derechos humanos que deben guiar la actuación de los Estados para prevenir, combatir y erradicar los «crímenes de honor».
